Prep note 2

Screening visits and baseline visits: two different stops

Study calendars often list a screening visit and then a baseline visit. They sound similar, but they answer different questions.

Screening first

Screening usually reviews eligibility: history, medications and tests named in the protocol. It is a gate, not a commitment to finish the whole study.

Baseline as a starting line

Baseline measurements are taken after someone is eligible and before the study product or comparison begins. Later results are compared with this starting line.

Why both matter

Mixing them up can make a calendar look denser than it is. Knowing which visit does which job helps you plan time off work.

Talk with the study team

Only the study team can say what your calendar requires. These notes explain the usual pattern, not any one study.
